I started my eBay business in July of 2001 as a way to spend more time with my son. Before I started selling on eBay, we had been playing a popular online role-playing game and noticed that a few players were selling their characters, sometimes for thousands of dollars. This caught our attention and we immediately started to explore the endless income opportunities that eBay would offer. That’s how Black Knight Trading Company was born. We liked selling on eBay. I really enjoyed the helpful community and the tools eBay provides to new sellers. We had some early success with selling, and I thought: "we can do this."
We went ahead and expanded our inventory to include real-world items. We took eBay’s advice on scouting for items that were in demand. I started visiting local stores and auctions and we just resold what I found. At a certain point, we filled up the house with sale items, and we couldn’t see the TV anymore. That’s when we knew it was time to expand to a larger facility. So, we found a shop and storage space in [Dunbar, W.V.] that would be big enough to hold all the auction items, and we’ve been there ever since. Now Black Knight Trading Company is the contractor for the State of West Virginia’s eBay offerings and is in negotiations with other government agencies. We’ve sold everything from a commercial folding machine to painter’s coveralls.
